Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four soon after starting.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the run-off area, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the fast downhill corner leading to the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in P19, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's car in third, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
