A Manchester club boasts an amateur veterans squad with nine ex- top-flight footballers in their present lineup.

The team Veterans Over-35s are situated in southern the city and play in the Cheshire Veterans League Top Tier.

Their roster this season features nine ex- Premier League players, with a combined nearly 1,800 Premier League appearances.

"A friend Stephen Ireland said 'join and have a game, it's a laugh'," commented the striker.

"Then he informed me we were facing a team from Liverpool and the surprise I had when I noticed them wearing Everton kits - I say this is strange for me!

"The spectators who come and see are happy and to give someone's day if they see us playing there and to ask us queries - it's more like the pleasure of us getting a place we can play, with structure of course."

So great is the bench strength at the club, Niasse had his first game at defender.

"That's a bit unusual but then, I love running and just go forward - I'm not staying back that much," he added.

"I tell my defender 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to keep running.

"That movement is what I'm looking for. It's enjoyable."

Along with the forward's 6 scores on debut, Stephen Ireland has scored eight in 3 appearances for the side, while George Boyd hit five on his first match and Joleon Lescott, a centre-half by trade, notched a hat-trick in one match as a striker.

Paul Barrow, 38, who plays on the flank for Collegiate OB, came up against former Wigan full-back Maynor Figueroa on Sunday - and had to explain his young son who Heskey was.

He has played at two global tournaments for his country, in as well as playing in more than 200 Premier League games.

"The news was spreading like a rumor they had these ex-Premier League stars," said Barrow.

"I felt I was a little awestruck playing against him to be honest.

"Also Emile [Heskey] came on and he's got 60-odd English caps.

"Our side competed well for a solid twenty minutes but then we had a man sent off and it was hard.

"Our group literally haven't ceased talking about it - I was phoning my mum and sibling on the journey home.

"The opponents were all friendly, shaking our hands after the game - it was like facing a group of normal guys.

"Now we are eager for the return fixture."
